Over thousands of people in Assam have been affected by two waves of the flood. Nearly 500 villages are inundated, depriving people of access to food, shelter and potable water.

Responding to the crisis, several volunteers from The Art of Living have been engaged in extensive relief work across Assam. With over 30 district blocks submerged in water, The Art of Living is swiftly reaching out to provide food, water, and clothes in the worst-affected areas.

Efforts have covered the following areas:

  • Reached out to many remote villages and hamlets, which are cut-off from all the road communications.
  • Distributed food items and drinking water to over 130 flood-affected families of Hatilung village in North Lakhimpur District.
  • Reached out to the worst-affected Majuli, the biggest river island, and areas in Gohpur of Sonitpur District.
  • Plans to distribute Ayurvedic medicines for basic problems like diarrhea, fever, and malaria that crop up in flood situations.
  • Solar lights and filters also will be provided to over 2000 families in few days.

Food items distributed so far:

  • Rice
  • Mug (Moong) dal
  • Sugar
  • Turmeric
  • Salt
  • Potatoes
  • Tea packets
  • Milk
